Menstrual Cycle and Pregnancy

To take care of pregnancy, first of all you have to understand female anatomy. Ovulation is one phase of the menstrual cycle in which an egg or ovum releases from ovaries. Its meeting with male sperm in its journey down the fallopian tube results in conception. Glands and hormones play an important role in ovulation. It is one reason why some women cannot conceive. The gland affecting ovulation is Hypothalamus. It uses its hormones to communicate with the pituitary gland, the master gland of endocrine system. Then the pituitary gland produces luteinizing hormone (LH) and FSH. High levels of LH cause ovulation within 2 days. This cycle continues with releasing of ovum by mature follicles into peritoneal cavity and then into fallopian tube. From there the ovum reaches the uterus. If the ovum fails to encounter a sperm within twenty-four hours it dies.

Know when you are fertile
One of the most important steps to improve fertility is - knowing when you are most fertile. For a woman she can be only fertile while she is ovulating. So there is only a period of few days in which she can become pregnant. A woman can monitor her body core temperature to know if she is ovulating as body temperature increases when her body is about to release an egg.Chances of conception increases if you have sex just before the egg is released.

Ovulation occurs two weeks before onset of menstrual period once in every month till menopause. For a female having regular 28 days menstrul cycle its safe to get physical with her mate only after 3 weeks or more of da first day she had her period. It breaks in between childbirth and pregnancy. Certain changes take place in the cervical mucus, which gets slippery and slick. A general or localized pain will accompany it. Sometimes there will be delay or deviation from 24-35 days in the menstrual cycle. There may be slight fever in women who follow natural family planning methods. It makes them to mistake ovulation for premenstrual symptoms, if it is accompanied by pain and changes in the body.
